House calls are a time-consuming but vital part of general practice. In rural Ireland they are an essential part of the community health services where there is little other emergency back-up to help people who are extremely ill. Rural doctors are campaigning for acknowledgement of the hours spent on the road looking after patients and keeping them out of hospital. They also want resources reinstated.
Meanwhile, congratulations to Dr Catherine O’Donohoe, a Wexford GP who recently registered at irishhealthpro.com and has won a weekend in the 5-star Savoy Hotel in Limerick.
